Northwest Academy is a Portland-based independent private school, serving grades six through twelve, that focuses on excellence in academics and the arts. The school will be purchasing the YWCA building in downtown Portland, adjacent to the Portland Art Museum in the heart of the city’s Cultural District. The building will serve as a permanent centralized home for the school, which currently leases space and operates in four different downtown buildings.
The school is embarking upon a capital campaign to fund a $15-16 million renovation and seismic upgrade of its new home. Hennebery Eddy Architects is leading the programming and design effort, which aims to retain and enhance the character of the 1950′s-era building, while creating a new identity unique to Northwest Academy. The project is incorporating sustainable design strategies with LEED Silver certification established as a minimum goal. The conceptual rendering above depicts one vision for a new main entry, on the southeast corner of the building.
