Architects and construction firms are often lauded for the beauty, creativity, and engineering of their projects, while the project delivery process itself is overlooked. Hennebery Eddy Architects and Fortis Construction are bucking that trend. The firms, both based in Portland, were recognized with a national merit award by the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) for their design-build delivery of an office renovation for the Oregon Department of State Lands.

According to DBIA’s announcement, the design-build award recognizes exemplary collaboration and integration in project delivery through Design Build Done Right™. Fortis and Hennebery Eddy’s project involved the renovation of approximately 13,000 square feet of existing office space on the ground floor of the Oregon Department of State Lands Building, including demolition, new finishes, and mechanical and electrical improvements that were coordinated with the owner’s selection, and purchase of new furniture systems. Hennebery Eddy’s project team was managed by Jon McGrew, who is a certified design-build professional through the DBIA.

This was the first design-build project for the Oregon Department of Administrative Services – Procurement Services.
