In a well-designed airport, travelers don’t have to squint to find their gate, cross their fingers for a nearby restroom, or backtrack for concessions they accidentally passed. The easy travel experience relies on special expertise in aviation architecture, and passengers visiting Portland International Airport will reap the benefits of Hennebery Eddy Architects’ latest hire. Heidi Bertman, AIA, LEED AP, has joined the practice, bringing more than 15 years of experience including a rich portfolio of design-forward aviation and transportation expertise. She’ll work on the Portland International Airport Terminal Balancing and Concourse E Expansion project.
“Heidi brings expertise in technically and jurisdictionally complex projects like hospitals and airports; in addition, she brings proficiency in completing transformational renovations for both government and private clients with attention to efficiency and smart, sustainable design,” said Michelle Vo, principal at Hennebery Eddy. “That experience, combined with her design approach that keeps the building users front of mind, makes her a natural fit for the firm.”
Prior to joining Hennebery Eddy, Heidi worked as a project manager, project architect, and senior interior designer for a large architecture firm specializing in work for institutional clients and government agencies. For transportation facilities in particular, she has overseen delivery of multiple projects ranging from master plans and design standards to interior renovations and new construction for the Port of Portland, the Port of Seattle, Seattle Department of Transportation, the Kelowna Airport (British Columbia). Additionally, she has worked with universities and hospitals across Oregon, California, and Washington. She holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon.
