Hennebery Eddy completes new Fire Stations 16 and 19 in Oregon City and Damascus, Oregon
Kids stared up in wonder at the shiny red fire engines, positioned in a striking “Z” shape that filled the 80-foot apparatus bay. The firefighters looked pretty excited, too, as they showed off their new digs to the more than 100 community members who gathered for the ribbon cuttings and open houses.
Other than the shift from a soaking-wet, gray winter day to a bright and breezy spring afternoon, the scene was similar for both events at Station 16 in Oregon City and Station 19 in Damascus. These two projects, funded by a Clackamas Fire District bond, represent a meaningful investment in each community and stand as a beacon of resilience and pride. Naturally, it was a time to celebrate.
The occasion at Station 16 was especially meaningful to Hennebery Eddy’s project manager Jon McGrew, who graduated from high school in Oregon City. He counts the fire district among his “greatest clients of all time.”
“Their commitment to serving the community inspired us to help provide them with the facilities that will enhance and support their efforts,” Jon said. “It feels good to do our small part to help in the service and protection of the Clackamas County neighborhoods.”
The fire district asked Hennebery Eddy to design modern stations that could nimbly serve out its mission and remain flexible for long-term use. Our team worked with the district to meet their specific needs, including a desire for a protoype design that could be implemented throughout the district for standardization and efficiency. While each station is unique to its site, the overall look and feel establishes a strong identity for Clackamas Fire throughout the county.
“I had an image of what this fire station would be, and you gave us something that went beyond that, exceeding all of our expectations,” said Deputy Chief Ryan Hari.
Both events featured a performance by the Clackamas Firefighters Pipes & Drums band and a special “housewarming” gift from the Hennebery Eddy project team: a shiny red kettle for the kitchen to match the shiny red engines.
