PORTLAND, ORE., and BOZEMAN (December 15, 2020) – Hennebery Eddy Architects of Portland, Ore., and Bozeman and Comma-Q Architecture of Bozeman today announced their merger into a combined firm serving clients throughout the West effective January 1, 2021. With a unified set of values, design philosophy, and focus on client service, the combined practice will serve academic, civic, cultural, aviation and private-sector clients throughout the region.
Seeking to foster net-positive environmental outcomes for all projects and bringing the expertise of Hennebery Eddy’s robust historic resources group to landmarks across the region, the combined firm will have an architectural, interior design and planning staff of 70. Ben Lloyd, AIA, founder of Comma-Q, will become a principal and vice president of Hennebery Eddy and will remain the leader of the Bozeman-based team. The Bozeman location will be known as Hennebery Eddy Architects’ Comma-Q Studio.

Expanding Hennebery Eddy’s existing presence in Bozeman will help us to better serve our clients throughout the Intermountain West, including those in the National Parks.”
Lloyd added, “Our firms understand that the real value in architecture goes well beyond the built environment and uses design to enhance and serve communities across generations. Philosophically and culturally, this is a strong fit.”
Lloyd founded Comma-Q Architecture in 1993. Notable projects for the firm include the 2020 expansion of the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, the recently constructed cross-laminated timber expansion of the Bozeman Community Food Co-op, the Willson Residences, and the Cannery District in Bozeman. In 2015, Comma-Q and Hennebery Eddy completed LEED Gold-certified Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship at Montana State University in Bozeman — recipient of a merit award from AIA Montana. Comma-Q and Hennebery Eddy are currently providing historic preservation services for the Montana State Capitol in Helena. Eddy and Lloyd were both raised in Montana and received Master of Architecture degrees from the Montana State University School of Architecture in Bozeman.
Founded in 1992 by Timothy Eddy and the late Stephen Hennebery, Hennebery Eddy Architects has received national AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten and Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) Awards, the 2018 AIA Pacific Northwest Region Firm award and consecutive rankings on Architect Magazine’s list of the top 50 firms nationally. Hennebery Eddy’s current work includes the comprehensive structural rehabilitation of the historic Oregon Supreme Court building, the seven-gate Concourse E extension at Portland International Airport with Fentress Architects, the Rothko Pavilion at the Portland Art Museum with Vinci Hamp Architects, and renovation of 235,000-square-foot Cordley Hall laboratory building at Oregon State University.
